Diltiazem side effects

Summary: Most commonly reported side effects include: Swelling, fatigue, weakness, headache and dizziness.

1. Common or very common

  • Swelling of lower legs and/or hands
  • Dizziness
  • Light-headedness
  • Constipation
  • Cardiac conduction disorders
  • Bradycardia
  • GIT or abdominal discomfort
  • Fatigue and weakness
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Flushing

2. Uncommon

  • Arrythmias
  • Nervousness
  • Diarrhea
  • Trouble falling asleep (Insomnia)
  • Low blood pressure occurring due to standing up or sitting down (Postural or orthostatic hypotension)

3. Rare

  • Rash
  • Dry mouth
  • Micturition disorders (such as dysuria, nocturia, polyuria, or frequency of urination)
  • Drowsiness

4. Side effects with no known frequency

  • Cardiac arrest
  • CHF (Congestive heart failure)
  • Extrapyramidal symptoms
  • Fever
  • Breast tissue enlargement in men
  • Liver infection
  • High blood glucose
  • Excessive sweating
  • Changes in mood
  • Severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs)
  • Photosensitivity reaction
  • Low platelet count (Thrombocytopenia)
  • Inflammation of blood vessels

5. Overdose Symptoms

  • Nausea
  • Slurred speech
  • Confusion
  • Drowsiness
  • Profound bradycardia
